GM decided to work on a DS homebrew game. It's called Generic Shooter.
I did some graphics for the game (all graphics). Finally had a chance to revisit stars. The stars I made aren't JUST generic noise like all the other tutorials, which is good enough for me so far.
While making stars, I wanted to make a 3D planet, but real 3D. Some of the old tutorials, all pre-2005 at least, involved some spherize filter trick which worked fine, but it doesn't have all the options a real 3D planet would. Here is the planet I made. Nothing too special. The texture is just a photograph I took along with some generic clouds strewn about.
Atmosphere is kinda fake but I could figure something out. I really like the realistic lighting which is something the older methods didn't have. I bet a couple of planets could be rendered with a real light source this way. It scaled fine for the game since it would only appear at about 32x32 anyways. Perhaps I can write a tutorial on this once I figure it all out.
Also, I made a Game Boy Camera preset for Photoshop's "Save for Web" option. I bet there are already a million of those!

I wish I could do DS homebrew.
Looking forward to this "Generic Shooter", for a DS homebrew it looks like it'll be visually very well done at the least.
The graphics are almost a parody in itself. The older graphics were much worse.
