Capcom is watching the Legends 3 support

So in contrast from last week's shitstorm regarding the Legends 3 cancellation, things have gotten more civilized since and Capcom is in fact watching the reactions from fans.

Apparently there is this petition Capcom supports. Should it received enough attention, Capcom would have to do something. I'm really amazed by how the fans have collaborated for this. I encourage everyone to support the continuation of the Mega Man Legends 3 Project.

JOIN THE CAUSE

There is also a dedicated Legends 3 page which combines the efforts of many in order to revive the game! Good luck everyone!

Shiny Metallic Bevels in Illustrator (Tutorial)

I promise this tutorial will be better than my last one. The goal is similar but the technique is better. Getting shiny effects in Illustrator was nearly impossible at one point, but this tutorial will show you how to get this great dynamic, effect in minutes.

Here is a sample of the technique and the final product of this tutorial.

New MMBN:Chrono X Logo!

This past week I was working on a redo of the logo for the fangame Megaman Battle Network Chrono X. I had made a logo for the active project before but after seeing it recently, I was inspired to try a new take on it.
I think it came out great. Overall legibility has vastly improved. It's much more balanced. The colors are also simpler. The developers of the game loved it so it's official now.
I am impressed at myself by how well it turned out and that I made it entirely in Adobe Illustrator. Yes, it was time-consuming but it's clearly the most skilled design I've made in Illustrator to date. In fact, the only thing I don't like about it is how the emblem shape turned out. In an effort to salvage the old design, I didn't rotate the mildly abstract shapes protruding from the emblem. This makes the circle feel kind of imbalanced and the shapes awkwardly head-on. If I didn't work so hard on the shiny emblem, I would redo that part with more complex shapes and proper perspective.
Overall, I like this logo and I hope the fan game will finish soon. They've gotten really far, apparently.

Megaman Legends 3 Canceled

Wow. In one of the most disappointing announcements I have ever heard, Megaman Legends 3 has been canceled. The project which had a lot of community involvement and really a lot of potential from the start was just canceled. It doesn't make any sense. First they delay the Prototype and then they just cancel the project. I guess with Inafune gone, there was little hope. I always hoped it could go on but Inafune leaving kinda just killed the Megaman series. I just have no words to describe the disappointment. When I saw the news, I just felt a heavy feeling in me about the dire future for the Megaman series. This means there are no games in development for probably forever. I am very close to believing the Megaman series has ended today with the last game being some mediocre cell phone game...

The Megaman series had a nice run, but I think this is the end. Sad to see it go.

Upcoming Illustrator Tutorial

If there's one thing I'm getting good at that matters, that would have to be Illustrator. I've learned how to do so many things that not knowing seems almost impossible. The veil of uncertainty in some effects has been lifted and everything is obvious.
So my next tutorial will be on making those shiny numbers Battle Network games have historically used for all 11 unique titles. I've made some quick samples of some numbers I made in that style. It really isn't very difficult anymore and the result is a very interesting and unique style. This tutorial should also be simpler. That last tutorial was very lengthy and had poorly planned instructional thumbnails.
Shininess is trendy right now so this fits the times for now.  And at least I figured it out before giving up. That's an achievement.

New Photoshop Background

Lately I've been messing with Photoshop's Noise Gradients. Yeah, apparently there's an option for that. It lets you make random-colored gradients. I used this tool to make interesting streaks which can give something the impression of a grunge look.
I thought it was interesting and I might use this new background somehow. After all, everything Google-owned seems to be changing. They changed my blog editor! It's different, but not perfect so I hope they make some adjustments later. Youtube is also testing a new layout. I knew those fake transparent "background" layouts would be worthless soon. I'm thinking of making a new Youtube background but only once the layout is finalized. It seems to be missing to many things.

Oh, and the background.
There is still much untapped potential with this "Noise Gradient".

Summer break nearly over

Well that was fast. It seems I'll have to return to school this coming Tuesday. The break didn't feel long enough, but it was actually miserably long. Things I wanted to do didn't happen. Most notably, this whole "getting a job" thing. Either I'm really bad at looking for a job, or there really aren't many jobs out there. I got close to going to my first day of work, but I resigned last minute because it turns out this company had a sketchy reputation. Now I'm probably too paranoid about scams or worrying about better jobs out there that I've sort of given up for now. And now with class starting up again and with a terrible schedule, I might have less time to find a decent job. I feel like I need more personalized assistance because now I feel like I'm falling behind. I'm 19 and I've never worked a day in my life. I pretty much wasted my summer break. It's just terrible.

Anyways. It's going to be my second year at The Art Institute. I will feel a lot better in class this time when compared to last year. Schedule is bad. I have a morning class on Tuesday, a noon and night class on Thursday, and a morning class on Friday. Gotta stay strong!!
